I’m Considering Marriage With Someone Not Fully Divorced – Should I Proceed?

Greetings to all. At 28, I find myself entangled in a situation that has left me seeking guidance and understanding. Let me share the intricate layers of my story, hoping for empathy and advice from those who may have walked similar paths.

I’m in a relationship with a man who takes care of me and takes responsibility for me. He has gone above and beyond by not only supporting me but also establishing a provision shop for me. His daily allowance ensures my sustenance, creating a semblance of stability in my life. However, the complexity lies in the fact that he is a married man with two children.

Their separation two years ago coincided with my entrance into his life. The history between us dates back to my adolescent years, when he, then 22, proposed to me at the tender age of 14. At that time, I lacked the understanding to comprehend such a proposal, and our lives took divergent paths. Fate, however, had its way of intertwining our destinies again.

He became my anchor when I found myself trapped in an abusive relationship. Swiftly rescuing me from that turmoil, he took on the roles of provider and protector. The narrative became even more complex when he proposed to me, a proposal I accepted, fully aware of his marital status.

Yet, here lies the dilemma. Despite the comfort and care he provides, I yearn for him to reconcile with his estranged wife. My attempts to encourage this path often lead to emotional outbursts from him, resisting any suggestion of parting ways. In moments of frustration, I’ve used hurtful words, expecting him to recoil, but instead, he returns with apologies and unwavering commitment.

Now, he proposes marriage, asserting his readiness to formalize our union. Amidst this, he diligently fulfills his responsibilities towards his wife and children. Over the past six months, he has been a constant presence in my life, covering all necessary financial aspects for his family, from school fees to rent.

As I grapple with health issues such as rheumatism and arthritis at the age of 28, the uncertainty of finding someone who understands and cares for me as deeply as he does looms large. The complexity of the situation leaves me at a crossroads, torn between my desires, societal expectations, and the intricacies of human connections.

In sharing this, I seek not only understanding but also the wisdom of those who may have faced similar challenges. How do I navigate the intricate tapestry of love, commitment, and societal norms? Your insights could be the compass that guides me through this complex journey. Thank you for listening to my story.
